WELCOME TO OUR CLASSROOM BLOG!!

Welcome to our Classroom blog!
Each week in 5th grade, you will have a post from me on Monday morning, and it will be your responsibility to read my post and respond to it by Friday afternoon. Some weeks, there will be a link to visit and/ or an assignment to complete. Sometimes, I will simply post something for you to think about, and you will respond to it. These next two weeks, you will be practicing using the blog.
This first week (May 29 - June 2), all I need you to do is to complete a response in which you:
1. Introduce yourself.
2. Tell one really exciting thing you'll be doing this summer.
** I made a sample comment below about my family's upcoming vacation to Natural Bridge, VA, to show you what I'd like for you to do. (Remember Natural Bridge from Landform Detectives on JASON?)
There will also be several posts throughout the summer, before the school year begins. I will email parents when a new post is up, but you may want to check back every now and then to see what's new and to see what your classmates are up to. This should be a fun way for the class to keep in touch over the summer and a fun way to learn during the school year!
?
Happy blogging, kiddos!

  1. SAMPLE COMMENT:

This is Mrs. Taylor. One fun thing I have planned for this summer is to visit Natural Bridge, VA, with my parents, my husband and my son, Jack. We are going at the end of June, and it will be my last big vacation before my daughter is born in August! All my students may remember Natural Bridge from Landform Detectives - anybody remember the processes that created it? Here's a link to the official Natural Bridge website - it is a very interesting natural area! http://www.naturalbridgeva.com/

  3. Hi, this is Allie.
I have two fun things planned for this summer. The first one is that we are going to have a exchange student from Zamora, Spain live with us in July. I will blog over the summer to tell you more about Juan. Maybe I'll blog in Spanish. :-)
The next fun thing is that I am going to San Diego for a week to see some friends. They used to live in Winston-Salem but moved to California last year. I can't wait to see the Pacific Ocean!

  4. Thank you for posting, Jaelyn and Allie! You both have very exciting summers planned. I can't wait to hear all about it! Allie, blogging in Spanish would be so cool! Mrs. Beckles would be especially impressed - and very pleased for the opportunity for the class to practice the Spanish skills she has taught!
I"m so glad you took the time to learn how to use our blog and to post your first comments. I look forward to hearing from all your classmates soon!
I still would like to see who knows the answer to my question about Natural Bridge - how was this landform created? Here's a hint: it had to be built up AND worn away!
Parents: don't forget to subscribe by email. Coming soon: the first of several Just-for-Parents posts with resources for an educationally enriching summer!

  5. wazzup! This is Aidan. For summer I'm going Nags Head NC for a week with my family. It's going to be awesome!! There's going to be so much to see. We're going to Oregon Inlet to see the fish that the boats caught and we will also see the lighthouse.

Natural Bridge was created by deposition and by chemical weathering with ice wedging.

  6. Thanks for posting, Aidan!
Sounds like you have a great summer planned, as well!
Thanks for responding to the Natural Bridge question, as well. I just realized it was harder than I intended - the Landform Detectives game only covers the Natural Bridge formation in Utah, not the one in Virginia (I remembered incorrectly). However, you can apply what you notice from similar formations (the other "Natural Bridge," "Rainbow Bridge," etc)
Remember, it had to build up before it was worn away... What was it before it was a "bridge?" How did it change over time? ...If you visit the official website, you'll see that it has connections to some important people we've been studying, as well.

  7. Hi! This is Jontae. For the summer I will be helping my mother with my baby sister, but what i'm really happy about is my mother got me into the Salvation Army music program. The program is all summer long, i love music so when we get back to school Mrs. Taylor i will play something nice for you. I do have one sad thing, my mother is not taking any summer classes because she is going to tutor me the whole summer session. She want me to be better in my school work when i get back to school next year.

  20. Thank you for posting, everyone! Sounds like you all have great summer plans. How exciting!
I am also very excited that so many of you are creating your own blogs. I will be linking to them this weekend (that feature does not work at school).
I know a few kids have had trouble figuring out how to post, so I am offering a "grace period" until Sunday evening ONLY THIS ONCE. As we all "get the hang of it," we should have no problems. The Friday afternoon deadline goes into effect for the next post (next week).
