Reminder about our First Blog Assignment

Hi folks!

Don't forget that your first blog assignment is due by this afternoon.

If you emailed me your work, I responded to you with some feedback.

I have COMPLETE answers (that means complete sentences, etc) from a few more people now.

MOST of you gave me wonderful, thorough answers, but STILL did not write them in complete sentences.

You may be thinking, "Why does this matter, if my answers were correct?"

The answer has several parts:

First of all, people will always take what you write much more seriously if it is generally correct in spelling, grammar, punctuation and all the other conventions of writing. I realize that to some of you this may still seem silly or unfair, but think of it this way - if you are taking the time to check on these details, it shows that YOU take what you are writing seriously, which gives other people the message that they should, too! It also sends the message that you are a knowledgeable person who knows what he or she is talking about. That's also very important in getting your point across!

Secondly, while I want the blog to be fun and interesting for you, and, YES, my main focus is getting across the content knowledge (a great deal of what I post on here will be related to our science or social studies concepts or to general creative thinking), I also want you to practice the other skills we work on in school. These include spelling, grammar, punctuation and general writing and argumentation skills. It is very important that you learn how to make your point efficiently and clearly so your audience (your readers) know what you are talking about!

So, to sum it all up: YES, kiddos, it is very important to write in complete sentences and to use all the "stuff" that goes along with that - the spelling, structure and punctuation I keep mentioning. Many of you skimmed over that part - and this tells me that you did not pay full attention to the directions OR you did not re-read and revise your work. Both of these are SUCH important habits! Let's work a little harder on this so that this will be a habit by the time school starts in August.

Thanks, guys! Happy blogging!

  2. Don't worry about it, sweety. You are ALWAYS so conscientious with your work, and generally very punctual. My main goal with this particular assignment is that kids get a sense of what will be expected from these assignments as we move into fifth grade - I am being more flexible with deadlines right now, but I really do expect that everybody fully follows ALL parts of the assignment. That's the main thing. And its kind of cool that you can email it, right?
    Thanks for checking in!

  4. Raja, thank you for turning your answers into complete sentences. Be very careful, however, to always start your sentences with a capital letter - small detail, but an important one to remember! I think the study of landforms is just fascinating! i hope all of you found this interesting, too. It's really amazing to think about the changes that happen on and below earth's surface to create new landforms and bodies of water and to change those that already exist. It's really all QUITE amazing! I'll keep posting related to this topic throughout the summer, with a post coming very soon related to the mysterious Natural Bridge of Virginia - how is it different from the Natural Bridge in Utah? How is it the same?
    ....more soon!
